Building a Skills Section That Works

Group skills by type and show depth instead of long keyword lists.

Group your skills

  • Accounting: general ledger, reconciliations, month-end close, fixed assets.
  • Reporting and standards: IFRS, Ind AS, US GAAP, management reporting.
  • Tax and compliance: GST, TDS, VAT, transfer pricing.
  • Systems: SAP, Oracle, Tally Prime, QuickBooks, Power BI.
  • Excel: pivot tables, XLOOKUP, Power Query, macros.

Show depth

Add a level only when it helps: Advanced, Intermediate. Back the key skills with evidence in your experience bullets.

Avoid

  • Rating skills with stars or percentage bars, because ATS ignore them and recruiters distrust them.
  • Listing basic office skills like typing.
  • Listing tools you cannot discuss in an interview.

Order

Put the skills that match the job description first.
